La Bibliothèque de Malatesta Novello La Bibliothèque de Malatesta Novello, dernière bibliothèque antique au seuil de l’invention de l’imprimerie, représente l’idée même de Bibliothèque humaniste. Reconnue universellement comme unique bibliothèque du Quattrocento encore intacte, comme l’édifice, les ameublements et le patrimoine libraire, elle constitue un complexe monumental et bibliographique d’une importance exceptionnelle. Le projet architectural est splendide et innovateur, projeté peut-être par Leon Battista Alberti, mais se sont les livres qui représentent le fondement et la finalité même de la bibliothèque. Malatesta Novello a recueilli, outre les grandes œuvres de la culture médiévale, les fruits de la tradition classique latine, grecque, hébraïque et arabe afin de réaliser le projet d’une culture universelle selon les canons humanistes. Les précieux codes 343 sont encore aujourd’hui à leur place, là où ils se trouvaient il y a cinq siècles, liés à leur chaînette originale du Quattrocento, dans les mêmes bancs de lecture, constituant ainsi une collection libraire et dot idéale d’une bibliothèque d’un prince de la première moitié de la Renaissance. Grâce à ce projet culturel, Cesena, malgré sa position retirée, a accédé, en liaison avec Florence, Milan, Ferrare et Rome, au rôle de centre propulseur de la culture humaniste, fondement de la civilisation occidentale. La Malatestiana, née comme bibliothèque seigneuriale, fut donnée par Malatesta Novello à la Commune pour un usage publique, et devint ainsi une des plus antiques bibliothèques publiques d’Europe. La Bibliothèque de Malatesta Novello, avec son inscription à la Mémoire du monde, pourrait certainement optimiser toutes ces actions de conservation et d’accessibilité universelle que l’administration exerce et garantit depuis toujours. Le projet Catalogo Aperto dei Manoscritti Malatestiani en est la preuve. Opérationnel depuis plus d’un an sur Internet et réalisé avec le programme WWW.ISIS 5.0, par sa facilité d’accès, gratuité et quantité de propositions informatives, il propose un matériel iconographique, textuel et bibliographique sans précédents. |
The Malatesta Novello Library The Library of Malatesta Novello, the last ancient library dating from immediately before the invention of printing, embodies the very concept of a humanist library. With its building, furnishings and manuscript collection, it constitutes a monumental and bibliographical complex of outstanding importance and is acknowledged the world over as the only fifteenth-century library still intact. The architectural design, which is possibly by Leon Battista Alberti, is splendid and innovative, but the focus and essence of the library are the books themselves. Besides the great works of medieval culture, Malatesta Novello collected the fruits of the classical Latin, Greek, Hebrew and Arab traditions so that he could realize his project of a universal culture along humanist lines. The precious 343 codices are still in the place where they have lain for the past five centuries and are still linked to their original fifteenth-century chain on the same reading benches. The whole constitutes a book collection and an ideal endowment worthy of the library of a prince of the first half of the Renaissance. Thanks to this cultural project, Cesena, despite its remote position and in company with Florence, Milan, Ferrara and Rome, was a driving force of humanist culture, the foundation of Western civilization. The Malatestiana, which started life as a gentleman’s library, was donated by Malatesta Novello to the local commune for public use and thus became one of the oldest public libraries in Europe. Inclusion in the Memory of the World Register would undoubtedly help the Malatesta Novello Library to make the best use of the management’s longstanding activities regarding conservation of the Library and universal access to it. This is proved by the project Catalogo Aperto dei Manoscritti Malatestiani (Open Catalogue of Malatesta Manuscripts). The catalogue has been operational for the past year on the Internet under the WWW.ISIS 5.0 programme and offers unprecedented iconographical, textual and bibliographical material. Access is easy, the service is free of charge and information is plentiful. |
La biblioteca di Malatesta Novello
La biblioteca di Malatesta Novello, ultima biblioteca antica alle soglie dell'invenzione della stampa, rappresenta l'idea stessa di biblioteca umanista.
Riconosciuta universalmente come unica biblioteca del Quattrocento ancora intatta, quanto all'edificio, l'arredamento e i manoscritti, essa costituisce un complesso monumentale e bibliografico di eccezionale importanza.
La struttura architettonica è splendida e innovativa, ideata forse dallo stesso Leon Battista Alberti, ma è il patrimonio librario che costituisce l'essenza e la finalità della biblioteca.
Oltre alle grandi opere della cultura medievale, Malatesta Novello raccolse i frutti della tradizione classica latina, greca, ebraica e araba, al fine di realizzare il progetto d'una cultura universale, secondo i canoni umanistici.
I preziosi 343 codici sono ancora oggi al loro posto, esattamente come cinque secoli fa, legati alle loro catenelle originali del Quattrocento, negli stessi banchi di lettura, costituendo così una dotazione libraria ideale per la biblioteca d'un principe della prima metà del Rinascimento.
Grazie a questa realizzazione culturale, Cesena, malgrado la sua posizione decentrata, ha potuto svolgere, di concerto con Firenze, Milano, Ferrara e Roma, il ruolo di centro propulsivo della cultura umanista, fondamento della civiltà occidentale.
Nata come biblioteca principesca, la Malatestiana fu donata da Malatesta Novello al Comune per un uso pubblico, divenendo così una delle più antiche biblioteche pubbliche d’Europa.
Con la sua iscrizione al registro della "Memoria del mondo", la biblioteca di Malatesta Novello, potrebbe ottimizzare certamente tutte quelle azioni di conservazione e di accesso universale che l'amministrazione esercita e garantisce da sempre.
